Who would the other nations side with if Canada and the United States went to war?

Canada and America both have a huge history with Britain,France and many other nations around the world. My question is if Canada and the US went to war who would the other nations side with? With the other nations assisting who do you think would win?

  1. Probably all the countries that officially claimed Canada would join them. And countries that like America (very slim) would join us. Our millitary is strong but it depends on who is with Canada.
  2. It would probably depend on the circumstances. France would lean toward Canada simply because they have a perception that the US is a little trigger happy. During the Faulkland's war, the US was called on to assist the British, which we were bound to do according to the NATO treaty, and the Argentinians, who we were bound to aid in wartime according to the OAS treaty. President Reagan sat that one out. Most country's would do the same, I am sure. A more interesting question would be whether either country would sue the US to force it to negotiate peace before the World Court in the Hague. There is also the question of whether the automakers would allow the US to go to war with Canada, given that so many parts for US cars are made in Canada. And, would we be bound to help Canada repel the Yankee hoards given our mutual membership in the OAS? Would we make strangers prove they don't have a Universal Health Care card to prove they aren't Canadians? Would we make POW's drink light beer to force them to talk? Great topic. Maybe someone should run a war simulation to see who would win!
  3. With the way we've led the charge with Iraq. The other countries would side with Canada most definently
  4. Well. Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Australia and India would probably side with Canada.. Perhaps Even China, Canada gets along with them... It will never happen.
  5. Your question is interesting, but the potential is beyond incredible to even calculate. Canada may have more supporters, but the country is almost isolated and supply of troops and equipment would be impossible at best. Perhaps you need to reference potential hostilities between the US and Mexico. That could well become a reality in the coming decade as oil continues to become critical.
  6. Wow...an interesting question with so many possible answers! I think a LOT would depend on who declared the war, and why the war was declared. Examples: If the US declared war on Canada to obtain unrestricted access to Canada's natural resources, the violation of treaty laws would probably cause most nations to side with Canada. If Canada declared war on the US to try and oppress religious freedom and demand that everyone become an atheist, the violation of Human Rights would probably cause most nations to side with the US. If Canada declared war on the US in an attempt to free itself from any oppression from US infiltrators, most nations would probably side with Canada. Complicating factors: Both Canada and the US belong to many of the same international treaties and organizations, such as NATO and NORAD. Either one declaring war would be in violation of these treaties, and other participating governments would probably side with the one who was violated, on principle. "On principle" sounds all good, but global trade would probably have an enormous impact as well. The US is a powerful trading entity, both as an exporter and an importer, and some countries would probably make decisions based on how the war would affect their economies. Although Canada in involved in much international trade, sheer numbers favor the US for this factor. I don't necessarily think that the Commonwealth countries would automatically back Canada, especially if Canada was the aggressor.
